The old textiles called suzanis were
born in the area along the Silk Roads that interconnected the cultures of
Europe, Turkey and China with the Muslim world in the area which is calling in
present time Uzbekistan. Uzbek Suzanis give us an opportunity to have an insight
into the old culture and traditions of this land. Such works of Art were
prepared and used for ceremonial functions like wedding dowries, and the general
embellishment of reception rooms.
This wonderful item is Tashkent an
old "Kerpech" it was made for a special purpose to cover niches. It has
beautiful floral embroidery with some words in Uzbek which means "Welcome our
guests". The foundation of this machine embroidery is velveteen fabric.
Size of this Kerpech is 81
x 53 inches or 204 x 130 cm. Condition is good. Foundation is velvet fabric. It
is from South region from Uzbekistan the age of this item is about 30-40 years.
This very beautiful sample of Uzbek embroidery will look gorgeous in
your interior and will create an Asian style.
