Of
all the textile arts of Central Asia it is the ikats that you will
probably find the most exciting. The brilliance in color and
extraordinary pattern designs are reminiscent of modern painting. Many
of the motifs used originated from flowers, fruits, animals, household
items and images that were seen in our people's daily lives. The region
of Alo Bakhmal is Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It is a pure silk handicrabted
abr velvet fabric. In Bakhmal pile which appeared by adding warp threads
was dyed using the ikat technique. The production of Alo Bakhmal is
very expensive and only reach people could afford such a luxury - to own
a chapan robe made of it. This wonderful fabric had been produced for
several years in 19th century, after which the production stopped and
the technique was lost. Only few samples of bakhmal were kept in museums
after that. But in 1997 the old technique was restored in Marghilan,
Uzbekistan. Today Alo Bakhmal is a dream of all collectors of textile,
and just an amazing example of skill of Uzbek craftsmen!

velvet and it looks very rich. It has a fabulous pattern of multicolored
forms.
The coat is lined with printed cotton fabric. Dominate colors
are yellow, orange and red, colors of the Sun. The delightful
