A
story of uzbek embroidery will be incomplete without a mention of
skull-caps so favoured in Uzbekistan. The patterns of these men's and
women's head dresses are unusually variegated and picturesque. In the
past skull-caps were worn mostly by men. Now that they have become
a part of woman's attire the art of ornamentation of skull-caps has
become tremendously diversified.
This one is a beautiful "Duppi" (Skullcap in Uzbek) it is vintage
handmade embroidered in South Region of Uzbekistan. This skull-cap is a
great sample for collectors of Oriental textiles.
Size of circumference 21.5 inches (54 cm) Condition is old, has a rip. The app. age
is the end part of 20th century. Fully handmade silk embroidered with silk threads.
Skull-cap is not only an
oriental national souvenir but it can supplement any European suite,
